Scope. This policy applies to the purchase and use of the digital annual subscription “THE DECODER” (online-only services; no delivery on physical data carriers) and to the purchase and use of the digital annual subscription “heise KI PRO” (online-only services; no delivery on physical data carriers). Both offerings are hereinafter referred to as “Deep Content by heise online offerings.”
Right of withdrawal for consumers and early lapse
Consumers (within the meaning of § 13 BGB) generally have a 14-day right of withdrawal for distance contracts, starting from the conclusion of the contract.
Since the Deep Content by heise online offerings consist of digital content that is not provided on a physical data carrier, this right of withdrawal expires early once we begin providing access before the end of the withdrawal period — with your explicit consent and your acknowledgment that you lose your right of withdrawal. Your consent is obtained during the checkout process.
No refunds for annual subscriptions after service has begun
Once immediate access to the Deep Content by heise online offerings has been activated (start of service), no refunds will be issued for already-paid annual subscriptions. This also applies to early cancellation during the term. Statutory rights regarding defects (see Section 4) remain unaffected.
Cancellation & renewal
The subscription term is 12 months and will automatically renew for another year unless you cancel. You may cancel at any time in your account with a simple electronic confirmation. Cancellations take effect at the end of the already-paid term; partial refunds are not issued.
Statutory rights in case of defects
Regardless of this policy, the statutory consumer rights for digital products (digital content and digital services) pursuant to §§ 327 et seq. BGB apply, including rights concerning defects, subsequent performance, and potential reimbursement in cases of non-conformity. These rights apply in addition to our refund policy.
B2B subscriptions (business customers)
Entrepreneurs (within the meaning of § 14 BGB) have no statutory 14-day right of withdrawal. Therefore, for B2B annual subscriptions, only these refund rules apply (no refunds after service has begun).
Exceptions
In cases of obviously incorrect charges (e.g., duplicate payments), we will of course refund the excess amount paid. These goodwill/correction refunds do not affect your statutory rights.
